Hope Coppinger
I look for the story in everything. (And I do mean everything.) It’s a requirement for my fiction writing, but I’ve also brought that same curiosity into all of my work.
Thanks to a love of design, I’m also constantly looking at how things are structured, how different elements work together, and what would happen if you changed that blue to green, shortened that sleeve, made the type just a little bit bigger. It all tells a story.
I ask a lot of questions and love to look closely at things. I’m also a careful listener and observer, always looking for the details that will draw someone into the story a bit more.
Most importantly, I see everything I do as an opportunity to connect and share with people, so I will always look for ways create those moments in the work I do.
What’s a working thread?
A working thread is the goal, idea, philosophy, or story that runs through the project you want to develop. It’s the collection of unique experiences and perspectives that make that project like no other. Sometimes that thread (or threads) can be difficult to discern, so we’ll find it through brainstorming, interviews and other modes of discovery. Sometimes the thread is subtle, and sometimes it surprises us.
The name comes from my own growing curiosity about fiber art (sewing, weaving, quilting), and beginning to see how communications of all kinds need to be stitched, knitted and woven together in order to create a useful and beautiful final product.
What does Working Thread do?
Working Thread develops communication and development strategies that champion genuine, unique voices, a welcoming presence, and an expansive outlook. I offer writing services as well as writing support for those seeking to develop their own skills and habits.
Copywriting That Elevates, Expands, and Educates.
My professional writing experience has focused on nonprofit and higher education, specifically fundraising, admissions, and membership, and includes writing used for email marketing, direct mail, brochures, websites, grants, as well as longer form pieces such as profiles and reports.
I work with creative agencies as well as directly with organizations and businesses.
Writing Support and Coaching
I also use my experience with creative writing to help people gain confidence in their own writing, whether their goals are personal or professional. I believe in the power of play to help people express themselves, and I work to help people to distance themselves from the barriers and roadblocks that keep them from developing their ideas to their fullest. Too often, people back off before they even begin, and they deprive themselves of the joy of that creative output while also depriving others of ideas and experiences that may never be shared.
I work with people to help them develop their written communication skills through one-on-one and in small group experiences for both personal and professional needs.
